Although Trimmings by Design was registered in 1999, the original trading divisions, Nottingham Braid Co. and A. J. Worthington are steeped in history.
Nottingham Braid Co. was founded back in 1911, designing and supplying crochet knitted trimmings to the lingerie and fashion trades. In 1977 the company acquired A. Sindall Ltd. of London, who brought weaving expertise as designers and manufacturers of high quality trimmings enhancing the company’s reputation for craftsmanship and service. They began supplying trimmings to diverse market areas such as historical reproduction, car restoration, interior decorating, bedding, upholstery, lighting, blinds and fashion.
A. J. Worthington can trace its history back to 1803 going under the name of James Goostrey & Co. who manufactured silk sewing threads. Andrew Jukes Worthington acquired the business in 1951 and expanded into the manufacture of narrow textile fabrics and yarn dying as well as industrial sewing threads and parachute cords. In 1954 the company then went on to supply the interior and fashion markets.
Today, Trimmings by Design is an independent company whose diverse approach to passementerie together with its wealth of knowledge and experience, enforces its role as one of the worlds leading trimmings manufacturers.
